Quick Decorative Touch Ups that Dazzle!

I believe we all want to enjoy our homes without spending too much time in keeping up with decorating. Decorating can many times be very time consuming and tiring when you do not have a guide or ‘game’ plan. And a game can quickly get very b-o-r-i-n-g (yawn!) when it consists of the same plays over and over and zzzz … again!

Unfortunately some people tend to place a décor and not move it until 7 years later (a big no no in my book!). That doesn’t describe you, does it?!

So how can you upkeep your home looking freshly dazzled with your style? Here are some quick decorative touch ups that will dazzle your home every single time you incorporate them:

1. Re-arrange your furniture location! If you feel that your heavy furniture pieces (sofa, bed, dining table, etc.) are in the perfect spot, then move the items surrounding your heavy furniture items – such as: your living room side table may go well in your bedroom and your nightstands may dazzle in your living room!
2. Changing your décor seasonally! Display winter accessories in the “winter” and summer ones in the “summer” .. or hey, maybe even vice versa as long as it is a ‘change’ where you feel a difference seasonally. Changing accessories seasonally revitalizes us!

Seasonally I suggest you change the following:

-          pictures of friends, family, and events

-          artwork location

-          curtains (even shower curtains!!!)

-          pillows on your sofa

-          bedding (have at least a set for each season)

-          area rug ‘location’

-          lamp shades

-          accessories on bookshelves

Remember, many times all you need to do to dazzle a room is ‘change location’ of the items instead of running off to buy new items. For example:

Area rug: perhaps you can incorporate moving an area rug from the dining room to the living room or from the living room to the bedroom to dazzle your room with a fresh look using an old item.

Lighting: maybe you have different lamp bases, but with similar shade sizes – if so, you can simply swap the shades from one base to another and dazzle your room with illuminated cool new to-the-room (wink wink!) style shades.

Curtain: perhaps you can add straps that hold/tie your curtain panels in the center or stiebacks that hold the curtain panels to the side. Try also changing the ‘color’ of the straps seasonally to make a visually dazzling impact.

The important tip to remember is to make it ‘seasonally’ different and special to you and your home will dazzle and illuminate your personality!

Is Glass Solid or Liquid?

Glass is a transparent material which is brittle in nature but chemically it is an amorphous material. Glass is used for multi purposes like in window panes, crockery, lenses etc. It is an inorganic product resulting from the fusion of silicates with boric oxide, phosphorous pentoxide or aluminium oxide. The main constitute of glass is silica. Though it appears to be solid in state but its state has been a topic of debate as some consider it a solid while others as liquid. It is a static and rigid object whose molecular structure does not undergo change while melting and solidifying to any shape. This is the reason why it possesses the quality of both the states.

How Glass is formed:

Glass is a super cooled liquid rather than true solid as it has more of liquid state quality. Glass is formed when the silica containing rocks start melting at high temperature and cool before they form a crystalline structure. Along with rocks the glass can also be formed by the action of lightning on a beach provided the beach sand is rich in silicates. Glass can also be manufactured artificially. For this the raw materials used are soda, lime, silica along with some other materials (which are optionally added to obtained desired characteristics like color, strength etc.) together at a high temperature to melt in a furnace. The procedure is carried out at a high temperature due to which it gets melted down properly and thus the resulting output product is molded into various shapes.

Types of glasses

There are many varieties of glasses available that can be used for different purposes. One of such is Beveled Glass. Beveled glass is a specially designed glass by a procedure called Beveling. In this procedure bevels round the edge of glass is formed which behave like small prisms distracting sun light into seven colors. Due to this spectrum like structure Beveled glasses can be used in providing beautiful visual effects.

Like Beveled glass one more type of glass is available which is Automobile Toughened Glass. This is formed by heating normal glass to a high temperature to make a plastic like structure. This glass is then cooled suddenly without any delays otherwise its molecular structure would get disturbed and would not provide the desired results. The output glass thus we obtain from the procedure is far stronger then a normal glass

Another type of glass is Laminated Glass which is sometimes called safety glass. Unlike normal glass, when laminated glass is broken then it does not break up into sharp pieces. This is due to the fact that it is placed in positions between its own layers of glass. The type of glass has layers polyvinyl butryl, which makes it more resistant to sound. The main use of laminated glass is in automobile windshields, curtain walls etc.

Designed by and for architects, ArchiCAD 12 is the most recent iteration of Graphisoft's primary CAD software offering. As architects experiment with the design and the placement of windows, doors and ceilings, for example, ArchiCAD creates all the project documentation. In addition, hotlinked standalone modules, which are embedded in a project file to represent repetitive parts of a project, deliver simpler management and visualization of the entire Hotlink structure and offers full control over complex project structures, the vendor said. Designers can use Image Fills or translucent Solid Fills to enhance client presentations, for example, while the Align and Distribute elements, the Nudge elements and the improved Dimension input logic speed up design time, Graphisoft said.

ArchiCAD also includes the Graphisoft MEP Modeler, which can be used to create, edit or import 3-D mechanical, engineering and plumbing networks -- such as ductwork, piping and cable trays -- and coordinate them with the Virtual Building, Graphisoft said.

Decorating my bedroom ?

I'd like to make my bedroom have more decorations in it . But I don't know what to decorate it with .
Right now it is pink walls with 70+ posters on the walls. a canopy hanging over my bean bag a closet and 2 dressers. (Plus clothes and stuffed animals, accessories, etc.)
I also have 2 blue and 2 green and 1 pink curtains that I can use.

Go to you tube and search decorating bedroom ideas, they have over 5000 videos! My advice would be to use neutral colors for paint etc, then you can change the pictures or posters etc often and inexpensively.Good luck

Walling Yourself - A Guide To Build a Wall

It's possible to put in a permanent partition to a room with some time and a little elbow grease. Making this type of a partition won't take that much of your time, moreover it's a nice thing to do.

Home interior projects can sometimes involve sectioning a room. Most of the time, this is done with a screen, shelves, potted plants or curtains. Sometimes though, a more permanent partition is required, usually in the form of a non-load bearing wall.

As you puzzle through the issue of how to build a wall, you will soon realize that you need some basic carpentry skills, carpentry tools and an assistant. Of course, building a partition will also take time. Make sure to measure twice so you only have to cut once!

Generally, it is impractical to build the entire wall before raising it into position you will be restricted by the space available. Get around this by assembling the new partition piece by piece. Make sure that all connecting surfaces (floor, walls and ceiling) provide a good anchoring location for the new divider.

The frame, or skeleton, of the new partition is composed of horizontal top and bottom parts (plates), between which lumber is positioned vertically to form studs to which drywall or other exterior material is attached. Plates and studs are usually comprised of 2' x 4' planks that are cut to requirements.

Mark where you want to set the bottom, or sole, plate by measuring away from an existing wall. Repeat this for the top plate to be located on the ceiling. Ensure that both measurements are straight by running a plumb bob from the ceiling to the floor.

Measure out the required length for the top and bottom plates and lay them side by side in order to measure out the distance to leave between the studs. Studs are usually spaced about 16 inches apart from one another.

With the help of an assistant, attach the top plate to the ceiling joists. Nail the top plate in place with 3.5" nails. Before nailing in the bottom plate, check your measurements again with a plumb bob. A power hammer may be needed to secure the bottom plate with masonry nails.

Next, measure each stud individually for the required length. To ensure a good fit, add 1/16-inch before sectioning. Tap the studs in place at the measured marks, re-shortening as necessary, before finally securing them with framing clips.
