How do you hang curtains in an apartment when you're not allowed to install brackets?

My husband and I just moved into a new apartment. We aren't allowed to use curtain rods that use brackets, because they leave too large of holes. (We are allowed to put tiny nail-sized holes in moderation.)

For the most part, I can live with no curtains--except in the bedroom. We can't use spring-loaded curtain rods, because the blinds that are permanently installed by the apartment complex are installed within the window in such a way that there is no room for a curtain rod.

Does anyone have any good ideas to hang curtains when you can't necessarily have a rod or big holes?

Thanks!

Are the blinds venetians with metal brackets? You might be able to use the magnetic curtain rod brackets that Lee Valley Tools sells and put them on the top rail of the venetians. I haven't used those brackets but have used the rare earth magnets that are in them and they're pretty powerful. Other places sell the same idea but if they don't have rare earth magnets, don't bother with them. Get a couple of pairs and you should be able to hold up sheers or other light fabric no problem. If they're vertical blinds, no dice, because their hardware is aluminum as far as I know.

There are curtain rods with brackets that mount with two nail holes, the very simple ones that a pocket on the top of the curtain slides over. The only name I can come up with for them is "single curtain rod", but you can get them at Lowes (item 86606, model 24-4221-10) and Wal-mart should have them, they come up to 84" wide, I believe, even if Lowes' ones aren't that wide. Instead of using the little nails that come with them, buy the longest wood screws you can find that will fit through the holes in the brackets. Might be a #4 screw. They will be easier to remove later without damage than the nails. You can buy the same sort of brackets in 2 depths, or possibly in a double version to hang a curtain and a sheer in the same place.
